MIke's client asked him to repair and rebuild this grain wagon. Below are pictures of the work.
In these first two pictures, you can see the grain wagon in its existing condition when Mike received it from the owner.
Here is the new poplar box for the grain wagon, under construction using all original hardware.
Now the new box is installed on the existing frame, per the client's request.
and the finished project, ready to be returned to the owner. Looking good!
The restoration process for some buggies begins with only the metal parts. In this picture, you can see the original springs, axle, and other parts in the condition Mike purchased them in. All the wood was rotted and beyond salvage.
Here, Mike has the front axle temporarily mounted for dissasembly. Once all the parts are seperate, the rust can be removed and they are ready for paint or powder-coating.
This buggy is beginning to take shape! All the metals parts have been cleaned, painted, and reassembled. Any missing or unusable metal parts are replaced and painted to match.
Now the buggy is fitted with its new wood box and seat. All wood is poplar, with floorboards of ash.
Amish-made wheels are now mounted onto the frame.
Here is the finished buggy with its new top. What a beauty!
